Joseph Railey as Student Senate President

HPJ Student elected to be President of Student Senate!

One of our department’s own has recently taken the position of Student Senate President. Joseph Railey has been elected President along with Brian Bruin, a fourth year Pharmacy student who will serve as Joe’s Vice President.

Joe is a junior -- double majoring in History and Political Science. He is working toward both the American and International Politics concentrations and is also a pre-law student.

Joe has been heavily involved with different activities on campus and in the HPJ department. He is involved in Leaders’ Council, College Republicans, Pi Sigma Alpha, Phi Alpha Theta, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Phi Eta Sigma. He is also a tutor for Dr. Loughlin’s Western Civilization classes and has recently returned from a study abroad trip in London, where he studied at the University of Westminster for a semester.

Joe stated that during his term as President, he would like to:

In terms of things we would like to accomplish, some preliminary ideas are to: foster closer relations between the Undergraduate community and the Law School, work to create a Senate that is more responsive to the needs of the student body, and to create an accountable administration of active and passionate leaders from across campus. Obviously given the views of the student body on the issue, we will be looking at working with dining services as well, but that is still really forthcoming. In general, this time next year what I feel we both want to see is a stronger Student Senate that is active with the student body and well regarded by them as well. Both Brian and I are really excited for the year and the chance to lead the student body. We also both are really humbled and honored to have been elected as President and Vice President. I am excited to really use this opportunity to leave a mark here at Northern.”

Joe joins a long line of leaders from the HPJ department.

Congratulations and good luck!
